Do I need a build step?#
No — nothing to install or compile before you can use a template. Every edition ships with its stylesheet and its scripts already built: open the files, edit the content, publish.
One caveat for the premium editions: opened straight from your file system, the pages still work, but the animated transitions between them do not run — the browser blocks the history API on file://. Any local server (VS Code’s Live Server, for instance) brings them back.
Can I edit the source?#
Yes, and the source is in the box — every edition ships it, free ones included. The styling is written in SCSS split across partials (colour tokens, the type scale, one file per component), and the JavaScript is split into ES modules that import one another rather than living in a single file. A change usually lands in one small file you can find by name.
Working at that level needs Node 18 or newer: npm install once, then npm run watch while you edit, or npm run build for a single pass. Each template documents its own file map, so you know which partial holds what before you open anything.
Can I use a template for a client project?#
Yes. Every licence lets you build a site for a client and hand it over; what no licence allows is reselling or redistributing the template itself. How many projects one purchase covers depends on where you bought it: on ThemeForest, the Envato licence applies — one licence per finished site (see the ThemeForest licences); on celestialthemes.com, the licence you chose at checkout. The free editions are MIT, and the licence ships in the repository.
What is the difference between the free and the premium editions?#
The free editions show the choreography in miniature: a couple of pages, the same motion craft, MIT licensed. The premium editions add page transitions, many more pages and layouts, and support. Both are composed in the same design system — the catalog shows them side by side.
Can I remove the credit on the free templates?#
Yes — Gatefold is MIT, so the credit is yours to keep or remove. Keeping it helps other people find the studio, and it is appreciated.
Will there be a WordPress version?#
Not currently planned — the studio’s focus is HTML editions built around motion. If that ever changes, the newsletter hears about it first.
